One of my favorite lessons this year was our lesson about methods of transportation and their effects on the environment. My goal was that students will be aware of the importance of curiosity, honesty, openness, and skepticism in science and will exhibit these traits in their own efforts to understand how the world works. Also I want them to be able to raise questions about the world around them and be willing to seek answers to questions by making careful observations.

I presented the poster and talked about why we should consider how our methods of travel affect pollution in the environment, and I suggested that we choose the most environmentally beneficial mode of transportation that is possible. We had a great discussion about the different types of transportation that students take to get to school, and then the students formed groups to take a polls of the entire first grade to find out the most common type of transportation. Then we made a chart of the different types of transportation.
